How accurate is this power planner?
It gives indicative planning figures using standard assumptions: 80% usable depth of discharge for lithium, roughly 70% overall system efficiency for solar harvest, and the peak-sun-hours and autonomy you enter. Real systems vary with temperature, cable losses, panel orientation, shading and how hard the battery is worked. Treat the results as a sizing starting point and confirm a final specification with PowerSol.
Why does it size a lithium bank larger than my daily use?
Two reasons. First, you usually want more than one day of autonomy so a cloudy day or a still night does not flatten the bank. Second, lithium (LiFePO4) lasts far longer when you only use about 80% of its rated capacity, so the nominal bank is your usable energy divided by that usable fraction. The planner combines both into the recommended nominal amp-hours.
Does the solar figure account for cloudy days?
The solar suggestion sizes an array to replace roughly one average day of consumption at the peak-sun-hours you enter, after a derate for real-world losses. Lower the peak-sun-hours value to plan for a cloudier location or winter, and rely on the battery autonomy (and a charger or DC-DC source) to cover stretches with little sun.
