Common issues

First-line checks for the systems we supply. For anything safety-related or beyond these steps, contact PowerSol or your installer — never work on live DC at voltage without the right training.

A lithium battery bank won’t charge or accept current

Confirm the BMS hasn’t put the bank into protection (low temperature charging is a common cause on cold mornings), check the charger profile matches a lithium chemistry, and verify the charge source is actually energised and fused. If the BMS is reporting a fault, read its status before resetting.

NMEA 2000 devices aren’t appearing on the network

A NMEA 2000 backbone needs a terminating resistor at each end and 12 V supplied to the backbone. Check both terminators are present, the power tap is connected and fused, and that no single drop cable exceeds the spec length. One missing terminator will take down the whole bus.

An inverter is alarming or shutting down under load

Most shutdowns are low-battery-voltage or over-temperature. Check the state of charge and the DC cable sizing between battery and inverter (undersized cable causes voltage sag under load), and make sure ventilation around the unit isn’t obstructed.

Solar is producing less than expected

Check for partial shading (even one shaded cell drags a string down), confirm the MPPT controller is sized for the array voltage, and verify the battery isn’t already full — a charged bank tapers harvest by design. Compare yield at solar noon, not early morning.
